Markus often represents clients desiring to start a new business on choice of entity decisions, forming entities and maintaining company compliance with regulatory requirements. He advises clients on how to avoid disputes and litigation and how to structure contracts and leases to minimize risk and maximize future benefits.

 

Markus speaks frequently at seminars to business people and fellow attorneys on business law related topics including protecting a business owner's personal assets and buying and selling businesses. He has been a guest speaker on Chicago radio. Markus previously worked as a business manager and is very familiar with business drivers and financial concepts and relates well to business owners and managers dealing with financial matters.

Markus is a member of the Institute of Illinois Business Laws where he helps draft Illinois business laws and provide input into proposed business laws.

 

 

Markus currently serves as a member of the Corporations, Securities & Business Law Section Council of the Illinois State Bar Association and is a prior Chairman of that Section. He is also Chairman of the Chicago Bar Association Mergers and Acquisitions Committee and prior Chairman of the Business Law Committee. He previously served for three years on the DuPage County Bar Association Publication Board and Business Law Committee which he also chaired.  He is a member of the Midwest Business Brokers and Intermediaries Board of Directors and was a recipient of their 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 Collaboration Awards.  He is an AV rated attorney with Martindale Hubbell and a Superb rated attorney with AVVO.com.

 

Markus has published numerous legal articles related to business law including protecting the personal assets of business owners, purchasing and selling businesses, and drafting pre-acquisition agreements. Markus was a regular columnist for the Naperville Sun Law Talk newspaper column.

 

Markus received a Bachelors degree in Marketing and a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Colorado where he served on the Law Review and was class president.
